This post was a suggestion from the Student Challenge. Starting with a picture of a cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper, we ended up with a homeless person and a piece of pie! Read through the comments for a smile!
Happy New Year! Today was the first day back at school from Winter Break, and my schedule isn’t giving me any time to ease back into things. We are in the middle of a huge team project at school, band and tech finals begin at the end of this week, The Suessical rehearsals began today, and I still have tennis and piano lessons. I am taking a break from writing my FPS Scenario and homework to write this post!
When I fired up my computer to check my email and Google Reader, I had two comments waiting for me. I was very surprised to read that I have been selected as the “Blog O’ Month” at Oh! Virtual Learning!. This also reminded me that I hadn’t blogged in a while, so presto! this post was born.
I chose Sketchfu from this list of embeddable blog tools. To be honest I chose it because the example was of Phineas and Ferb, which is a show I love. But I was also interested in the concept of drawing and then replaying it back in fast motion. Sketchfu is really fun and easy to use. I made the above animation in less than two minutes.
Seeing as I never expected to be nominated, I am thrilled with being nominated and shortlisted. No matter whether or not I win, I’m so honored to have been nominated!
Today is Blog Action Day 2010! BAD 2010 is all about water. Water is really important in my everyday life. I wake up and go to the restroom, wash my hands, drink water all throughout the day, take a shower, and eat food cooked in water. I’m lucky to have fresh and clean water at my fingertips whenever I want it. Some children, however, are not as lucky. Their towns don’t have clean water, and they don’t have plumbing. The water they do drink can make them and their families sick.
Through my school’s NJHS we are working with UNICEF and the Trick or Treat for UNICEF to raise money for children all over the world. Some of this money goes to getting clean water to kids. I think the question we all need to be asking is “What can we do to help?”. It is pretty obvious that there is a problem, but where are solutions?
What can we as privileged and blessed students do to help others get clean water?
Miss W has informed us that we are going to be visiting/ receiving many visitors for next week’s challenge. So in preparation for all this, I am going to tell you a little bit about where I live! Here is my post for last year’s challenge.
If you were to visit Indiana, no matter how old you are, you have to go to the Children’s Museum. Their exhibits are fun and exciting. In the winter, they have a huge burlap sack slide going down the staircase.
Another place you should be sure and visit is Hollyhock Hill. It is a restaurant that serves fried chicken, corn, and mashed potatoes “family style.” The food is REALLY good and the restaurant itself is quaint and charming.
Greetings from Michigan! I am currently sitting on a hotel bed waiting until we leave to go to an amazing omelette shop for breakfast. We are visiting my aunt and twin cousins for the 4th of July weekend. I am really excited for tonight because we are going to be going out onto a boat in Grand Traverse Bay to watch the fireworks (that are over the water) from a boat! It’s going to be really fun!
So far I’ve done a lot of shopping, but last night we went to the movie theater to watch Toy Story 3. It was really good! Everyone, including me, my two cousins that are going to be seniors in college, my 17 year old brother, my parents, and my grandma, enjoyed the movie. It was really funny!
Yesterday, since it is currently the National Cherry Festival, we watched an air show of the Blue Angels. They are navy, air force, and coast guard planes and helicopters that can do cool tricks like flips. We went to eat lunch about halfway through the 3 hour show and ate under a canopy. We could see out to the water where they were flying, but we couldn’t see when they looped around and came roaring over our heads at over 100mph. Almost every time we all jumped.
Scanning through the news today I came across this amazing artist. George Vlosich III is a wiz on the etch a sketch! As a kid I remember trying to use this toy but not doing much better than stick figures and smiley faces.
The detail in his work is incredible. The video below is an example of his work in action. And the speed is increased! So imagine how long these take him to create! The talent he possesses is amazing, and it’s nice to see that he’s using his talent so well. Enjoy the video as much as I did!
